Flashback to Sixteen

I was going through old files on my computer–cleansing, purging, organizing, and flashing back to my poet self when I was 16. I found this sestina I wrote when I was a sophomore in high school for my English class. It is made up entirely of lyrics from various Beatles songs.

Beatles Sestina

By Annie (with song lyric help from Rebecca)

It’s easy,

All you need is love.

It’s beautiful and so are you

In my life I love you more.

You really got a hold on me.

Well here’s another place you can be.

You know that we’re as close as can be

Take it easy, take it easy…

Take out some insurance on me

I need somebody, I want somebody to love.

Let’s give up no more.

If you let me take your heart, I will prove to you,

I’m living every moment for you,

There’s nowhere you can be that isn’t where you’re meant to be.

Who could ask for more?

Make it easy.

It’s real love.

You’ve got to come to me.

Don’t you realize now, what you see is me.

Help yourself to a bit of what is around you.

All you need is love.

Suddenly, I’m not who I used to be.

Take it easy, make it easy.

Love me a little more.

I’ve found that love was more…

For the things you do endear you to me

Take it easy, make it easy.

I could never really live without you.

What can I do, what can I be?

I’ll be coming home again to you, love.

Oh my love,

You can love me more.

Think how good it can be.

Use your arms for loving me.

Because you’re sweet, and lovely girl, I love you.

It’s easy.

Love, love, love, surrender to me.

Love me more like I love you

You know that we’re as close as can be, so come on and make it easy.

Sorry I’ve ignored you for so long. I just haven’t had anything interesting to say.

I’ve been crazy busy working, going to school, and running a non-profit theatre organization.

It’s not you. It’s me.

Sigh.

The Four-Leaved Clover

I saw this movie the other day in the ASL class I am auditing at UT. I love both the ASL and English versions of this poem, but I haven’t been able to find it anywhere else other than YouTube. The original poem was written by Samuel Lover, but the ASL translation and performance is credited to Terrylene Sacchetti. Enjoy.

Always at peace on the water.

My mom and I went canoeing at Barton Springs/Lady Bird Lake today. My favorite moment was paddling back to the boat house as the sun set. It was so serene.

Title: To Be Determined

Posted in thoughts on December 17, 2008 by anniemarks86

It took me a decent amount of time to actually create this blog. I admired my friends who had blogs, but oddly, the thought of creating my own didn’t even seem realistic. What would I write about? What if I wrote three posts then never touched it again? Wasted effort. What if I had nothing to write about? Then Jordan told me if I wanted to have a blog…have one. Don’t worry about the IFs…don’t worry about how often I write, or if my writing is good enough. So I thought, “Ok, I am ready to start a blog now.”

Then as I set up this page well over a month ago, it hit me. Dang…a blog needs a title, right? Everyone seems to have their catchy blog titles that have some deeper meaning or if nothing else at least sounds like something some person would want to read. Again…I let my obsession and perfectionist attitude stop me. Then as I was talking to Jordan and Lizzy again, I joked about titling my blog something like “To Be Determined” until I came up with a better name. However, after talking about it, I realized that title is perfect. It has a double meaning–the content of my blog is to be determined. My path in life is still to be determined. But I am also a DETERMINED person. I am passionate about what I do and determined to be successful and most of all happy in my life.

So this blog is To Be Determined…
